tested in my IE and it worked fine…
this is a common error with Both IE and FF
Simply put: the browser is mis configured
you will find this happens with Newbies, and some advanced users who use one browser over the others… FF users who are using IE for instance or IE users who are testing FF for the first time…
85% of everyday users who are using thier preferred browser will not experience this error … occasionally it can be caused by a mis configured server, but most standard hosting packages will be configured correctly… this does not seem to be the case with your server.

Thanks for stepping in Radio.
I was only putting off answering because I have an opportunity a little later today to try IE for myself so was going to see about it after that.

Hi there,
I actually have the same problem. I use the latest WP release (2.5.1), installed the latest Download Counter (v1.1) and am testing on a PC with Windows XP.
Downloading via the plugin works fine in both Firefox and Safari, but not in IE 7. Clicking the download link opens a popup windows saying “determining file information …”. A few seconds later I get the following error message:
“download-manager.php from http://www.joergmeyer.de could not be downloaded.
The website could not be opened. It is either not available or could not be found. Try again later.”
(I had to translate that to english because I get those messages in german)
The blog URL is: http://www.joergmeyer.de
The “problem link” is: http://www.joergmeyer.de/wordpress/download-manager.php?id=1
Maybe you can help me.
Greetings,
Joerg

Radio? Any ideas? I don't have a clue I must be honest but you obviously had some notion of the reasoning behind this?

I havent had a chance to swing my brick at that plugin, yet.
as far as IE7 not responding correctly, i would immagine that IE is not seeing the responce from the plugin as valid data.
Having worked on some similar code in the past, way way in the past, we developed a redirect driven code. Whenever we wanted to log a specific location, we would feed a 301 - Perminant Redirect - at the apropriate location after the logs counted the original link, so files could be downloaded in Mosaic.
Absolutely no reason the same reply from download-manager.php couldn't do the same thing, count the hit, then 301 redirect to the file. It would be universal across browsers (unless you count IE as a browser, then it's anyone's guess what the hell Micro Shit will do with it).

@ joerg
Ich betrachtete Ihre Seiten. Ich glaubte ihnen, um sehr nett zu sein. Änderten Sie den Code für Akten?

I've got the same problem. FireFox downloads the thing just fine, but IE7 just tries to download the php file. I think the counter still goes up. What should I do to solve this?
The only thing I can think of to do right now is to place a little link to the original source file saying something like, “If that download doesn't work, click here.” But I don't want to do that becasue then it won't be counted.
I can't wait to see what happens when Radio throws his brick.

Afraid to say I have made no progress on this. One problem being I do not have a Windows machine… I am sorry, the only recommendation I can really make with all honestly is not to use the plugin at this time.

I understand the difficulty of not having a Windows machine. You're advice to not use the plugin sent me on a search for another one that does the same thing, and they're not too easy to find actually.
I found one here, that seems to work on FireFox and IE7 but it's not as good for FireFox because it opens the MP3 link in a Quicktime player instead of going to download it. I included the link in case you'd like to look at how they do it.
If you ever do have a solution to the IE7 problem, I'd much prefer to use your plugin. Thanks again.
