Hey,

I'm having a problem when adding a new link. Whatever URI I add, it shows me "Bad Link".

My download-counter is placed under: http://www.site.com/wordpress/download-counter.php

I tried creating a "download" folder in the root "/wordpress/, but it never works.

Anyone can help me?

Thanks!

Well you could start off by putting the files in the right place. Download-counter.php goes in  your plugns folder and download-manager.php goes in  the blog root folder.

Having said that, if your download-counter.php file is where you say it is I don't understabd how you can run it and see that it says 'bad link' so something is wrong in what you are telling me.

As it says, I believe, in the readme (if not at least in the forum here somewhere) the 'bad link' message may be incorrect and it doesn't matter. If you can actually make the download then it works. The link message was just an attempt for the admin page to 'see it'. if it can't see it but it still works then you are OK.

Oops, I made a mistake. It should have been written: http://www.site.com/wordpress/download-manager.php

Some time ago it used to say "Good Link", but when I deleted all the id's and added new ones, it shows me "bad link".

Also, when I click to download file, it doesn't.

I put some file to download everywhere in my folders I could. I also created as many download links. None of them works. Eh, I don't know what's going on. Maybe I should reinstall whole thing again.

Sorry for earlier post, but I think after reinstalling things work fine. I still see "Bad Link", but I can download the file and see the counts for it.

I don't know what's with that "Bad Link" issue, but it doesn't disturb me.

Thanks for time! :)

Same problem here. Everything works (counter and download) well but a Bad Link is reported.

I think I'll just remove thast column in the next update as it is more trobule than it's worth and if the download works then it is meaningless.

hi,

i'm having the same issue, bad link reported and download doesn't work.  i have the files in the correct place (download-counter.php in plugins and download-manager.php in blog root folder - the 1 with wp-content, etc.).  are there any specific file permissions that are required?  all folders have 775 and all target files have 664.

any recommendations?

 thanks,

calvin.

And I assume your actual files for download are in a publicly available place. Other than that then no - I don't know the cause.

If you don't use the download replacement url are you able to download the files? That's really the test.

Hi, thanks for the plugin. I really want to use it but cannot get it to work correctly.

My two files are in the correct directories. But, like some of the others have mentioned when I add a url to a .zip file it tells me that it is a "Bad Link". When I use the url provided by the download manager, I get the following message:

"This download file appears to have disappeared!"

But the url to the .zip file is correct. For example, see this post and try to download the content provided (click the image):

http://simalala.com/2005/08/07/accessories/earrings/

The url provided to the download manager, directly to the .zip file is as follows (and works):

http://simalala.com/accessories/facepaint/lalin_earring003.zip

Not sure what should be done? Do I need to add something to my .htaccess file?

I can’t answer the htaccess question but I wouldn’t have thought so. it;s odd that for most people this just works but then there are the small few, like yourself, for which it doesn’t. And that is frustrating for you and me alike.

There is a new version which I am about to release (I am waiting to here some test results form a few users) which stroes the information in a  different way and the ‘good link/bad link’ is now totally correct. (At least it has been on all tests so far). You DO need to make small hanges to your data but if you would like me to email you out a copy to try and more than hapy to do so.

If not, I’m sorry I am unable to diagnose your problem. I would need, I think, to look at your server setup which is not possible.
