Hi everyone.

I just thought about a killer feature that would be extremely nice to make your forum an excellent weapon for wordpress businesses.

Is it possible to gather the email addresses of the forumers into a file easy to use with marketing-mails senders to allow supporting forumers with email service?

Thanks again for this great plugin!

I don't know if this is already in, but can the admin send new users a welcome PM once they register with the forum? If this feature isn't in, I think it most definately should be in v4!

No - but they can customise the welcome email

WP already sends an email to new users once they register…  WP and SPF share users databases…  guess one could send a PM to new users but it seems redundant…  you can certainly do it manually now, but not auto…

the feature list for v4 is finalizing now, so its unlikely, but Andy is working the PM system so will let him answer definitively…

I just read the development notes on member profiles and was wondering if a user could opt in/out of having their profile being shown. Also, I'm hoping that member profiles can be ordered by State, to help members find one another. Lastly, it would be great if an option was available to make the member profiles available to registered members only. Just my three cents. Thank you!

The bad news is that we are very behind on this one and I wont guarantee it will make it into 4 although that hasn't been decided yet.

I can tell you that the last of the three is a given (and is the way it is at the moment). As for the first two - I'll make a note of them that's a promise.

Heya,

My name is Brandon, and I run a website using the e107 CMS. Unfortunately said website is now um.. well I'll just say I am in need of rebuilding it. I've been looking into WPMU as a new platform and was checking out your forum plugin. It looks excellent! Do you have any pointers about using it with MU?

I'd start with the Simple:Press Forum FAQs forum where there are some items dedicated to MU. Simple:Press Forum works with MU although I know there are one or two minor wrinkles. We have quite a few users on the platform.

The 4.0 version looks like it's going to be great — the 3.1.4 version already is! I would like to request a feature (I don't think it's in there anywhere) — the ability to send an e-mail to a specific address when a new topic is created, but not when it's replied to. A kind of “announcement” of the new topic.

Thanks!

My god, is 4.0 really coming out in 2 days?!  Been following the trac site and if it's accurate then this will definitely be the best Halloween treat!

Uhmmm on the Roadmap tab:

Milestone: 4.0

Due in 28 hours (10/31/08)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what that means.  In either case, I'm definitely looking forward to any release.Laughing

May I suggest a way to really “manage” the spammers ? It should be something like displaying the auto-created list before deleting the spammers, and give to the administrator the possibility to select/deselect any spammer (one by one or all together).

Yes and add facility for approving registrations before posting is allowed, It would help keep the spammers out.

eidolonnight: My apologies for this indeed. This is something we failed to update. The delay really came about because of vacations! I will be publishing a timeline for V4 in the next day or so and very soon starting a beta period.

col: This is really a WordPress issue as we use the built in WP mechanisms. This is, after all, a WP plugin :)

I couldn't wait, just tried to upgrade from 3.1.4 to 4.0 from trunk.

the upgrade is running now for almost 30minutes, the blue progress bar is still moving along all seems ok, but can this really take that long?

should I stop it?

p.s. I know I was not supposed to do that and I am not asking for help because I fu**ed it up knowingly, so if you feel like bashing me feel free ;-)

I shall leave you to rap your own knuckles :)

It was probably unwise. If nothing else we are in the middle of transferring the svn repository to a new location.

The upgrade has not yet been tested aganst a 'live' system so there may well be some minor niggles to iron out.

And is this MU ? I really have no idea yet how it will behave on MU.

We were hoping tp have a beta available in a few days but we are having some server/hosting problems that need to be ironed out first…

Now … I would say if the blue bar has gone across the entire screen and wrapped then it is never going to stop so yes - I would stop it. I would be most nterested to know what the 'sfversion' is set to in the Options table however….

:-) don't worry. I'll take the blame all by myself. btw. its live, but unimportant, so I can still conduct tests on it…

It is indeed wpmu and sfversion is still 3.1.4

here is a screencast of what is going on right now: http://screencast.com/t/SupTvkUql so  I will stop it.

any suggestions on how to proceed? shall I wait for a beta and try that? or manually change stuff in the DB?

I's go back to the backup tp be honest. And wait for the beta!

I actually got that wrong… sorry - I meant to ask for the valkue of 'sfbuild' not 'sfversion'. It would be most helpful as that will tell me how far through the upgrade it got.

I plan to take that older trac down tonight since we have moved it to a new domain and the one you grabbed is out of date.  The beta is real close if we can just knock out the new server and domain issues.

sfbuild is 320

I managed to recover by deleting all files, uploading 3.1.3 again and the forum was back up and running. Then I uploaded the 3.1.4 files, did the upgrade and all is well again :-)

P.S. can't wait for the beta

Good to know you were able to reverse-engineer successfully. Remember this when you get the 'real' thing because you may need to remove a table from the database before you upgrade. Check with me on that.

Thanks for the build number. This is a little disconcerting as your system shoiuld not have been anywhere near this… I will have to try and work that one out.
