I could reliably confirm the problem from the RSS-Feed-Thread (RSS works now, thank you!) and wanted to isolate it in a new thread:

If you assign a subapge to a different category then its parent is assigned to, this subpage does not show up in the "Page category Plus" List page. The category it was assigned to does show up in the dropdown menu, but the page does not. It does also NOT show up in the category of the parent page.

Only if I assign the same category to parent and sub, both are correctly shown in the List.

Thank you if you have time to look into this,

best regards,  otto.

I can confirm that sub pages do not show up in the list regardless of what setting is used in the function call.

This had me foxed for many an hour until coming here to see the same issue reported.

Andy it would also be great to be able to exclude pages being shown as well. For instance i run a local borough website and plan to have mini sites (using categories) related to borough location.

So say we have two borough locations

  Location 1

    About
    Schools
    Useful Telephone numbers

  Location 2

    About
    Schools
    Useful Telephone numbers

Location 1 & 2 landing pages are categories and will likely show news related specific to that area. About, Schools and Useful Telephone numbers pages related to that location category only.

However with 50+ locations the page structure organisation or, more importantly, the finding of pages to edit when the needs arise, being that the category of a page does not show or is indeed sortable in wordpress admin, becomes quite a problem.

To counteract that i planned on using a page holder

So a page is created as retainer for both Location 1 and 2’s, making every other page a sub page for that location.

Heres the breakdown

  Location 1

   Retainer for Location 1

        About
        Schools
        Useful Telephone numbers

  Location 2

   Retainer for Location 2
        About
        Schools
        Useful Telephone numbers

Retainer for Location 1 & 2 will never be displayed on site but allows navigation through the pages admin section a great deal easier.

What do you think ?

I have the same structure to my plugin pages (on a smaller scale of course). I just assign the ‘menu-order’ as WP calls it so that my ‘Manage Pages’ list is pre-sequenced to how I want it. So I don’t need to exclude any.

I can look at exclusions but I know from the past ot can get a little messy. I will try and get around to the category issue as soon as I can…

I am sending a code file to see if that helps.

Hi Andy and thank you for your work!

I installed the code file to my server, and the solution works very good for me (orphaned child pages)!!!

If I assign a different Category than the parent, it does now show up in the correct category and shows (orphaned from parent) in parenthesis next to the child page title.

As I would not need children of child pages, this is a good permanent solution for me,

thank you again,
otto

Good to hear. I will release this as an update as I can’t think of any better way of doing it and, as yoiu say, it does the job! Thanks for the catch.
