I’m developing skins for two of my sites, and one is almost done. It’s at http://www.rosecitygardens.com/sf-forum/. Please ignore the total lack of content on that site - it’s not due for launch for a month yet, I keep postponing…
I’m working from the default skin, replacing colors, buttons and icons bit by bit. The buttons I’m using are not done, I’m going to have the white buttons with red text but it will be aligned to the right and an appropriate little icon will sit on the left.
For the group, forum and topic pngs, I’ve used CC icons. I’ve had a lot of fun picking out the right ones and tweaking them in Photoshop.
Thanks so much for this software, Andy! I’m disabled and on a fixed income, or I would have donated long before now. When I’m finished with my buttons may I make them available to download? It’s a small thing, but I’d like to do something to pay the community back.
Thanks again!

It will be my pleasure! I’ll have another set too, from my other site - it will be kind of feminine, with pink tulips!
How much is a license to run SimplePress on a commercial site? I believe I read something in the popup about that.

I believe we have talked about this in other threads. I also believe that a commercial license is required for Highside scripts $25US on a comercial site.
Other than that, I do not believe there is any concrete requirement or price set, but definitely, a donation to Andy wouldn't hurt at all.
I am also on a fixed budget. I help here as much as possible, sounds like icons and skins would be your niche, so I say, have at it! (and have fun too… life is too short to be Grumpy, even if he is a dwarf.)

As both Mr Papa and Radio have already said, a contribution of a skin and/or icon set is more than enough and this looks like it is comng along nicely. I'll look forward to it.
I went with HighSlide because it is one of the better libraries and the commercial license really is very reasonable. I will be keeping it under review however as slowly I want to move all the javascript over to using jQuery now that it is bundled with WP.

I’ve started over on the buttons (personality defect - I’m never satisfied!)
I’m using the famfamfam icons - should I write to him and ask permission to use them? I started to just do the buttons, now I’ve decided to do a different size psd for the different size buttons. I keep changing my mind as to text color, etc… and this will be an easy way for users to create new button sets.

the default set f icons are famfamfam. I don't think you have to ask. I credit Mark James in the info box at the bottom.

I am nearly finished with the buttons and with the psd’s. I would have been done sooner but I deleted one of the psds accidentally. Luckily it was the easier one. I have a completed set of buttons too. The set of buttons I made is nearly identical to three-en, except that it has different group, forum and topic icons, and the buttons are slightly smaller and have a gray stroke around them instead of the bluish one on three-en. The icons are on little square buttons instead of round. Also, the font is Verdana, plain black, but you can change that if you download the psds. Only thing I have to do is attach a readme to adhere to the GPL of the place I got the topic button from. Stay tuned amigos! I’m taking a dinner break then will hop on it.

Ta da! All done, finally. You can download the buttons and/or the .psd files to make more at RoseCityGardens.com
I hope this helps people create more skins and buttons - the GDKs make it easy and quick to create new sets of buttons. I’m calling this “kissware” - see post for details! In short, pay it forward - do something nice!
Andy and crew, thanks for the absolutely awesome wonderful fantastic beautiful software that is making me so happy! I know, I tend toward the overly dramatic. I really do love it though….

You're welcome. Glad you are liking it.
I must start new icons and skins pages and when I do I'll put this link on there. Time again…..

OMG, the Rose icons you have on your forums themselves are AWSOME. I know I'm going to have ten thousand sub-blog users want that set for their Simple:Press Forum Icons on my WPMU site.
Are the Icons you made available, anything like those? (your description sounds different.)

No, sorry - that’s part of my site logo so I replaced them with other graphics. I’m going to make some flower buttons though, also hearts. I’m a very girly-girl! Now that I did the little GDK it’s a snap. So more buttons/icons are coming!
Actually, now I need to start looking at the stylesheet. I still have some color adjustments to do but I’m almost done. Then I have to hardcode a contact form, tired of looking for a decent one - I don’t like any of the ones for WordPress, even before they didn’t work with SimplePress. Anyway when I’m done with that it’s going to be button city at the Gardens!

More buttons! I’ve been housebound so these are insomnia buttons. These are called Spring Green, and I included the two GDKs in the download.
Spring Green Buttons for SimplePress
Enjoy!
