First, i like this forum-plugin very, very much. But while trying to adapt its look to the one of my Wordpress-installation, i am slowly getting crazy.
Mostly because, just in my opinion, the whole CSS-part is far too detailed for a forum-software with the word “simple” in its title. While i can understand that some people wish to be able to define even the smallest detail, i wonder if it would be perhaps possible to add some way where i can define the look of the board with only a few summarized css-entries.
I don't want to have a different background-color for every single table or even a different margin for one specific td-tag. I'd guess that most admins would use the same colors they use in Wordpress anyway, like the ones for the links.
So i'd either love to see a template-system like the one from wordpress, where i can define every css-class (without being “forced” to use the already defined ones) of my own, or something like a “simple mode” in the forum-admin-menu, where i can enter the rough-colors like in vbulletin.
Anyway, this is just some feedback. simple:press is still great!

Surely the advantage of skins is that you can start with a blank sheet and only add those items you wish to add. In fairness, the CSS has grown largely because users DID want finer control. I see your point but you can do with it as you choose.

Starting with a empty css-file is the way i am doing it now. It's just a bit cumbersome to see what can be left out. So it would still be great to have just one entry to define, for example, the background- and border-color for all tables.
Perhaps adding an official “Minimal”-style to the package would be an option?
Anyway, i'll continue to remove as much “clutter” as possible. And thanks for the fast reply!

It's only the first skin that you do that will be a problem - after that, a simple search and replace of color #s does the trick.
Although I admit, I have wished for such a thing. I administer a couple of Invision boards, and the “Easy” option really comes in handy. However, Invision has many, many more style definitions than Simple Forum.

I've given up for now.
Could it be possible that the CSS hasn't been created with dark designs in mind? As an example, replacing 000000 with FFFFFF didn't change all black fonts into white ones. Either i am missing something, or some areas still seem to be hardcoded.
Anyway, having a CSS-file with nearly 1200 lines (!!) seems still somewhat like a contradiction to me for something called “Simple Forum”.

well, a few styles are hardcoded, but not text colors… have you looked at the midnight skin? its a dark skin… I have created a couple of other dark ones too… it can be done (relative comparison) as easily as light one…
this plugin started as a very simple forum really meant for providing support for Andy's plugins… it has obviously grown way past that… we get daily requests for new features to be added…
do you have a link? I can take a look and see if I can provide some help…

Thanks, took me a while, but the “midnight”-skin did the job!
