Well, I'm the numpty, was just looking down the list of unread posts in the admin view very quick,

clicking through each as “read” and on one of them, I hit the “delete” button instead by mistake.

Well, my click finger is obviously quicker than my brain, cos I then, I clicked “OK”.

So now I have deleted someone's post (or whole topic?) and I dunno what it even was…

So a feature request to avoid me numpying again would be either:

Some sort of folder of “deleted” topics which can be restored.

Or

some sort of logging of deletions (e.g. something like the email notify of new posts, an equivalent email notify of new posts and what they said, an email notify of deleted posts and what they said…)

I will add something like this to the future feature request list…   its a long list so no guarantees on implementation…

We actually do have this on the dev plans for 3.2. No promises as it is impossible to include everything but it's there…
