This is the link to my simple:press forum which is currently offline as I cannot find a way to actually add a post. I admit I am new to using forums on my site, but think I am missing something obvious!
Please can someone let me know how I can add a post to a forum!
Thanks

Well the obvious answer is the same way you did here!
But, if you are not seeing the 'Add Topic' icon then you probably need to look into the permissions and user groups in Admin. So - when you set up the actual forums in Admin - did you assign user groups? The user Groups and Permission sets look a little confusing to start with but a couple of minutes of looking usually makes it obvious how it works.
havng said that, if you are the logged in Admin (as specified in the Forum Options > Admin tab) then you should see the add topic icon anyway….

Hi, I am having a similar problem. Anyone know why when I click on the title of the forum, nothing happens? http://www.nagoyafriendsparty.com/ngo_wp/forum/

Most often it's a permalink problem or a plugin conflict. If you look at the online help from admin there is an installation troubleshooting section which has some of the more common problems listed that you could look into.

Do not seem to have an Add Topic button on my site.
Have disabled Google Analytics plugin which is only one I can see that caused conflict and still no change.
Permissions have been set appropriately, but as you said that shouldnt make any difference for me.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I might need to see it.

http://danstorey.com/index.php/forum/
When click on a forum, new window says
“Sorry, no posts matched your criteria, please try and search again.”
Thanks for the help!

Ah - that's different. Same advice as I gave above in post 4 and it is most probably a permalink thing so try what Jonathon did in post 7 first (Admin > Forum Options > Toolbox tab)
Also check that the page slug and page ID have been recorded correctly (Admin > Forum Options > Admin tab).

Have updated the permalink which has got rid of the error when clicking on a forum, but there still seems to be no Add Post button.
Any other ideas?

Have published the page now so you should be able to find it more easily. Have also updated the permalink so site is now at
http://danstorey.com/index.php/forum/
Thanks again! Think we are getting close!

Well - there you go. You have defined no Groups and Forums. There is nothing to add topics to!
Go to Admin > Manage Forums and create some forums and then all should be well.

Have already created groups and forums but they dont seem to be visible from front page if not logged in, but can see them when I log in. Also doesnt seem possible to register - it asks Are you sure you want to do this?
Really appreciate the help!

what user groups and permissions have you assigned to the created forums? default user groups are guests, members and moderators… you can create others… without user groups and permissions assigned to the forums, only the admin will see them…

Members always had full access but have now set Global Permission for Guests to read only, which seems to make forums visible from front page.
However, it still doesnt seem possible for anyone to register, as it keeps saying “Are you sure…”, and I still have no “Add Post” button. It is once again coming up with the error message “Sorry, no posts matched your criteria, please try and search again” when I click on a forum title.
Thanks

you seem to still have a permalink issue… go to forum - manage options - admin tab and make sure the forum page details are correct… save changes if you make any… then go to the toolbox tab and click on update forum permalink…
just out of curiousity, why have you chosen a permalink structure that has the index.php in every permalink? I think you would be much happier all the way around without the index.php in the permalink of all of your pages/posts…

Have tried removing the index.php from my permalink but for some reason it doesn't seem to link properly. Can display home page but wont link to any other pages or posts.
Have set Forum Page Slug to “forum”, which shows front page but then shows error message when actually click on the forum. Did try “index.php/forum” but when click on the forums it just reloads the forum front page.
In any case, there is still no Add Topic button. Have repeatedly updated Permalink (now http://danstorey.com/index.php/forum/) so not sure what other changes I can make to the permalink.
Would it be worth removing and reinstalling? or would that simply put us back at the start of the process?
Thanks

what do you have your permalink set up to be? I can try similar set up on my test bed and see if there is a general issue with the style you have selected…

I think you've nailed the problem. That is a most unusual permalink - not the default. Clicking on a forum just loads an error page. I think we need to iron that one out as I suspect our rewrite rules are not going to work… So yes - can you let us have your permalink setting please.

also, after you removed the index.php from your permalink, did you clear your caches before trying to move around your site?

Permalink settings for Forum
http://danstorey.com/index.php/forum/
Blog Permalink settings use “Day and Name” option in Common Settings options in Wordpress. Have tried to use Custom Structure and remove the “index.php” section, but Wordpress does not seem to like this. Permalink structure is:
http://danstorey.com/index.php/2008/07/05/sample-post/
Hope this is what you need. Many thanks again!
