This is a question from the guy i am working on a forum for…
Is there any way to get the forum icons to change color to show whether a forum has new posts/topics inside it.
This
is obviously the way software such as phpbb and smf show new forum
activity, but is there a way to do this with simple press forum?
If not, could the way the admin is notified of new posts/topics via the icon in the admin bar be transferred over to the members?
I personally do not mind how it currently handles new posts/topics but at the request of the other guy i thought i would enquire

The simple answer to both questions is no I'm afraid.
But I am considering the former for the next release…

Hi, sorry to drag this up again.
I recently sent the forum i am working on live and we are getting lots of complaints about this feature where the forum icons dont show if there are new topics/replys.
Will it make the next version as the guy that i am working on the site/forum for is considering dropping it to go back to phpbb (even though he will loose the user integration with wordpress, fool)

It is not slated for 3.1 but if I have time I can take a look at how easy it will be to fit it in. I can't promise though as we really need to get 3.1 out as quickly as we can and should be concentrating on issues arising from testing.

Thanks for the reply.
I understand it is not a high priority and look forward to the next release.
I will tell the users to stop complaining in the meantime

couldn't do it in quite the same way as for topics because forum icons can be set to a custom icon… so have made it a flag instead but it works quite well.
