1.3 has really taken the software a long way in a short time.
We even have uploadable avatars now, woohoo.
However they seem to be currently broken Avatars both here and on my test server (windows based so no permission issues) are not getting uploaded.
Just a heads up.

Whoops - meant to mention this in the documentation file.
You DO need to set permissions to the folder to have write access. Why is this not an issue on Windows?

You don’t need permissions for write access in folders on windows And it doesn’t work here either i’m afraid

I’ll run some more tests. One problem, of course, is that I can only test on my own server etc…
As an old Windows user I wasn’t aware of this. I distinctly remember setting up permissions on folders, especially those in the webspace.

I’ve never set a write permission on a windows server But trust me its not uploading either here or on my server.
Its likely a path issue .

Ah! have you got one of those strange URI’s? Please tell.
You could be right.

I meant to mention this is just my local windows, not a proper server, using a LAMP configuration and as i say you really don’t need to apply write permissions to folders. However i have just applied that, just incase, but its as i expected, still the same.

God i wish i could edit my posts, ARGHHHHHHH Url is mapped to testdomain.com from localhost using windows hosts and wordpress is in the root of the lamp configuration so its not that.
Also to mention further i have uploaded the same avatar, i resized to 50×50 3 times here and it hasn’t shown up so i can only assume its not being uploaded.

Put me on the beta test team LOL, i’m good with bugs Well good at finding them it seems anyway.
BTW the improvements you’ve done are awesome.
This is now without a doubt my forum of choice for wordpress MU i think. Keep up the excellent work.

I can see that both your avatar and indeed profile entry ate not there on my system. However, I just deleted mine and re-submitted it with no problem.
I’ll keep looking at it but I’m not totally sure where at the moment.

Could you try uploading the 50 x 50 avatar again and let me know exactly what message you get back at the top of the page after it refreshes? Would help…

Strange. So no messages at all? Not even a ’success’ message?

No unfortunately not. No errors, no messages, nothing. It does appear to upload the avatar then brings you back to your profile page and thats it. No avatars displaying either in the profile (not sure if there supposed to be) but more importantly not in the forum messages.
Bizarre isn’t it.

Hi Yellow Swordfish & dizzy99,
seems like the avatar problem was fixed here as I could upload my avatar (animated GIF) and it worked. My 1.4 installation though does not seem to like the avatar. Did this "problem" have to do with write permissons or was it something different? WP is running on a linux system here, WP v2.1.
Kindest regards, n_n~

dizzy's problem was caused by a malformed test for gifs which was corrected in 1.3. Of course, permissions in your 'avatars' folder do have to allow for write access by the system.
One or two people, however, are reporting problems uploalding avatars to their own servers, as you are, and I am having sme problems sorting this because I can't replicate! Can you tell me what message you are getting on the return from the attempt please?

I'm getting a message that says: "Unable to move file to designated directory". Which is why I was checking the permissions. The avatar folder is set to 755 which should be ok I think. Everything else seems to work perfectly fine. Thanks a lot for your quick reply.

Yes this tally's. OK - It's my next thing on the list to sort. I'm thinking I may have to look out to a library routine to find the problem. Thanks
The plan has been that 1.5 has all the things in it that a 'simple' forum should and then I take a rest and look at feature requests. All that means is that 1.5 will hopefully come along soon. But, if I am able to get this sorted I might be able to send out a single code file for people to try out. So that's the plan…

Sounds very good, and again thanks a lot for your dedication, it's a great plugin. Looking forward to trying out 1.5 and further releases. If I can help by testing new versions please let me know.
