Hello! Great plugin. Is there a way to:
a) add a custom icon for each registered user?
b) have the posts show up chronologically, with the most recent appearing on top? (Right now the most recent post appears at the bottom)
THANKS!

Thanks
OK (a): I thought long and hard about this one but decided to put it off until I got some feedback. it is really only possible to do this with registered users and I assume you would want them to upload their own. It can be done and it’s on the list.
(b): yes it’s easily done but not without getting into the code at the moment. I guess this could be a display option. I can do that. I did toy with the idea of threaded posts but when reading up on it found that most people don’t seem to actually like them and find them too confusing to navigate through. I ordered them the way I did because most forums I visit do it this way.
I will try and include both these items in the next release which I doubt will that far away.

Sounds good! Just wasn’t sure if I was ‘missing something’ or not. It works beautifully the way it is. How about something that flags topics with new posts? (You can use the ‘most recent post feature’ but I’m thinking something more ‘graphic’ - because your graphics looks great!)

Assuming you mean more for the sake of other users as opposed to the admin… I thought about this but am not sure how best to implement it. It would be horrendous tracking all users to determine what was new since their last viewing… although I guess you could use a ‘new’ flag that just stays visible for x number of days. if you have any ideas procedurally I’d welcome hearing them.

As I’m not at ALL a coder I can’t even start to suggest what may work in this situation. I do like the idea of the flag that shows for a few days (possibly with an admin feature that lets you choose the duration it will stay apparent?). Cookies that expire after 24 or 48 hours? The subscribe feature as is works great, but just thought something more visual would work, too. No worries, I like it ‘as is’!

Regards Avatars i would suggest something using remote blog avatars. Something like http://www.gravatar.com/ that way even unregistered members would have an avatar if it was set. Shouldn’t be too hard to implement ?
The reason i ask that is i’m currently using this on wordpress MU and will be offering my members to use it also, meaning each blogs gets their own custom forum.
Your code is clean and works perfectly in a multiple user environment and gravatars seems the best way to go in that direction.

I see several problems with ‘gravatars’ from there - not least of which is that the site is closed now and has been, I understand, for a while. No one seems to know what’s going on there. Secondly there is the burden of making multiple jumps to a third party site which can have enormous overheads - especially if that site is slow or under pressure. Finally, there is the question of the size. We really need to keep these to a sensible size limit and from what I have seen people often tend to go a bit crazy…
Size is important. A normal forum has the whole width of the page to play with and can afford the luxury of large graphic components. Here we are talking about restricted width - and on some themes I have seen - very restricted width. So I think we have to be careful and use the space wisely.

Why don’t you use MyBlogLog for the icons?

I don’t know of it (I don’t use these things myself) but I will look it up…

Hey there. This forum looks great!
I think I’ll be uploading it to our site very soon!
Something is missing though, I hope there was a way for the users to upload their own photos. I agree with Yellowumbrella. Please add this feature..

Now that the gravatar site is up are you considering looking into this as an option now? I would like to see it happen as an option (ie. another *sigh* checkbox in manage option to use gravatars). As far as the size issue goes gravatars are limited to 80X80 hense being global…I think this size isn't entirely unreasonable.

I guess I have to say it's not out of the question. Maybe in the next major revision after 1.8..
