Have the forum installed fine. But just can’t work out where an administrator approves posts? And how I turn this approval requirement off. Thanks

In the simple forum options - users, you will find the various checkboxes for the moderation requirment…
The administrator approves posts in the forum… They show up in the forum just like normal posts, only with a different color background and only the admin can see them…
on the list for a future upgrade is adding a post moderation approval page/section…

I have also just installed the forum, but I’m not sure if I have set the options correctly though.
Newly posted posts can be seen by all forum visitors while the post is still waiting for admin approval. The pre-approved post also appears on the recent post list. What’s the point of moderating it after it has been seen by everyone? Am I doing something wrong?

Are you saying, and absolutely sure, that a post awaiting approval from admin can be seen and the full content read by other non-admin users?

and also sure in the admin view, that the same post is greyed out?

That seems to be the case on my website.
Can you see it here? http://www.ecataromance.com/index.php?page_id=337&forum=1&topic=1&page=1&post=10
There are 8 or nine posts. People are replying to each other (guests!)
Which is fine. I don't want the moderation turned on right now anyway. But I'm seeing people reply to things that others said and I keep trying to “approve” things with the little icon but nothing happens. The page doesn't change, the post doesn't change color and the post still says Post Awaiting Moderation….
I had one user question me about “being approved.” So maybe they see the note? I'll ask her.
And I've since turned off the moderation options… at least until the spammers find me.
Thanks so much for your help!

Wow, thats odd… never seen it before… not sure what is going on… maybe Andy has a better idea…
if you dont want posts to await moderation, Manage Simple Forum - Manage Options - Users and uncheck the three options under Users and Registration that begin with “Moderate…” but you may want to wait until Andy gets a look so he can see the original issue…

I am most concerned about this but also somewhat puzzled as in the year plus since the plugin has been available nobody has ever reported this problem and I am totally unable to replicate it. Which is an even bigger worry. That also means that I don't really know how to respond, what to suggest and what can be done about it.
It's quite obvioulsy not correct.
I will take a look at the code but I'm not sure what I will be looking for…

Uh oh, I didn't mean to create more work for you. I've got the moderation turned off completely so all future posts are coming through fine.

I should mention that it won't let me delete posts via the little icons. It seems to have a problem saving in general. Ii'm not entirely sure how it's supposed to work, but I tried upload an avatar and it didn't save it. Yes, it was the correct size. I double checked.

Talk me through this. You click on the 'tool' icon and dropdown the tools. You click on 'delete' and then… what? Nothing? The page does not refresh? No message at the very top of the page?
What browser are you using out of interest? I am wondering of this could be bady supported javascript.

I use Firefox 2.0 and I've tried IE 7. On Windows XP.
Yes, I click the little tool icon. The other icons drop down. Then I click the little delete icon. It pops up a window asking me if I'm sure I want to delete the post. I click yes. The page refreshes, one would think it actually worked, but if you scroll down the post is still there. If I do a hard refresh, it is still there.

I am forced to come to the conclusion that there is something else at play here. Unless the code that should have run after the delete confirmation was interrupted by a third party component there is no possible way that it can return without posting a message to the very top of the forum view. One of three possible messages: 'Access Denied', 'Deletion Failed' or 'Post Deleted'.
Based on this and the other failures you are experiencing I have to suspect another plugin is having some sort of creep effect, maybe in redirecting the action or scrambling the javascript. Could you tell me what other plugins you have installed please - let's see if any of them are familiar…

Well I would very much like to get your problem solved. We had another one last week (on 3) which turned out to be a faulty plugin so there is hope that this is the issue.
But… I am sorry that there is no way I am going to find the time to download that lot and try them all! One or two I can manage bit that list is endless! I am surprised your site has not crawled to a standstill.
They need deactivating one at a time, testing the forum between each one.

I wouldn't expect you to test them all. And the site runs fine. I don't have time to do it either and I don't need the forum bad enough. Thanks though.
