Hi all,

I just try activating this forum plugin with a fresh install of wordpress on my hosted domain.

Package information:

Wordpress 2.3.3
SimpleForum 2.1

PHP 4.4

MySQL 5

There are no other wordpress plugins active and this is the following error that occurs:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 77824 bytes) in /usr/local/www/<mydomainname>/public_html/wp-content/plugins/simple-forum/sf-pagecomponents.php on line 118

Thanks in advance for any help on the matter.

The error message really is self-explanatory. The system ran out of memory. May have been caused by too many processes going on at the time or you may have an overly heavy and memory hungry site there. You may want to try talking to your host to see if it can be increased.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I've just re-installed everything once more and now the error has changed but I believe the same problem that you stated is still occuring.

Error Message:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4864 bytes) in /usr/local/www/flatliners.gaming.multiplay.co.uk/public_html/wp-content/plugins/simple-forum/sf-support.php on line 1174

Will try and contact my host for further assistance, many thanks!

you need more php memory…  if your host allows it, you need to edit your php.ini file and increase the memory limit…  if they dont allow, you will have to ask them…  more and more hosts today do indeed allow it though they will have a cap…

This is going to be something of a problem. For reasons that are still unknown, any MySQL version  below about 4.2 fails to run database alter statements from the upgrade scripts. Sometimes the base tables do not get created either.

I really do not know why this is. It crops up every now and then and there doesn't appear to be a logical reason for it. I have scoured the MySQL documentation  with no luck and others who have had this problem always promised to come back to me to help sort it but never have.

The only way around I know of is to create the tables from a SQL script. I can create one if this is any help and send it to you. Having said that - 4.0 MySQL is really getting very old now!

Sorry you have had this problem.

Yeah, for the time being the SQL-Script would be great. I'll talk to my hosting people about an upgrade. They usually play on the safe side and don't change running systems :-(

Well - at least the WordPress is up to date. That's important.

I will email you the script.

Thanks for the script Andy.

I had to fiddle about with it a bit, but the tables are set up now :-)

I just have to understand how this works now, thats all …
