Wow, It only took me about one hour but I found a post with the same problem. And found out it was WP-contact form. All is good now.

Could you elucidate?   What about WP-contact was the problem?

I’ve just installed the Simple Forum on my website ( http://www.charleslatshaw.com ) and can’t get it to recognize anybody as logged in, or to process new registrations.

I have no idea what WP-contact might have been doing! But there can be other reasons for what you are seeing. However, I can’t take a look as you seem to have no link to the forum and the link you gave me is to the front page only. If you give me a link to the fortum page I can take a look to see what may be wrong.

These sorts of things are usually cuased by another plugin clashing, a permalink issue or even a simple option setting somewhere.

I’m having a similar problem.  I registered a test user, no e-mail with password ever received.  Then when I tried to retrieve the password, I get the message "Email not sent. Possibly the host may have disabled the mail() function."

First question… what happens when you do the same thing using the WP forms instead of the forum ones?

The code is ‘virtually’ the same. If you can do this through the WP forms then I can try and take a look at what might be a problem but if you can’t then I suggest you start with the error message and ask your host if this might be the case.

I used the plugin WordPress-Ready Contact Form v.2.0WP (http://green-beast.com/blog/?page_id=136) and it works fine.

I’ll also contact my host.

Thank you for the help.

It would still be useful for me to know the answer to the question regarding registering via the WP forms. It’s only if I have this information that I can determine if there is a problem.

OK — my problem is now fixed.

Here’s where the issue was.   I have my WordPress installation in a folder called, appropriately enough, "wordpress."  In the WordPress options -> General Options, my Blog Address (URL) was set to:

http://charleslatshaw.com/index.php

I removed the "index.php" portion of the URL, and saved it.   That fixed all my registration problems!   I can’t remember if I had been the one to input the original link, including the index.php, or if maybe a previous version of WordPress had done it.

The index.php part is rogue. WP doesn’t put any filename in there - just the url

Glad you managed to troubleshoot it.

The WP forms isn’t working either.  I’ve been looking around, seems like this is a common problem for WP users — any idea how to fix it?

Sorry no. You should perhaps ask at the WP forums
