I’m a total noob to Wordpress (like 4 hours) and I’ve installed the Simple Forum plugin, and I can get to it under manage, but when I click on Visit Forum, I get a 404.
I created a group, same thing.
I haven’t mucked around with the slug, so I didn’t screw that up.
I confirmed that this plugin works with my theme.
I uninstalled and reinstalled already…no dice.
What did I do?

No way of telling but there can be some common things that are the problem. if you are sure the forum ‘page’ record was created correctly (it does fail on some installs/versions of WP sadly) and that the ID and Slug of the page match the appropriate fields in the forum options admin tab And you have updated the forum permalinks to match your own (via the buttton on the forum options panel) then it is probably down to another plugin. There are some that clash. What do you have installed?
There may also be something listed in the user and torubleshoting guide that you can download from the plugin page.

Here are the plugins I have installed:
Akismet
Auto-hyperlink URLs
Headspace 2
Hello Dolly
SEo Title Tag
Simple Forum
Smart Update Pinger
Subscribe Me
The page sf-forum seems to have been created ok, as it’s in my menu now, I’ve checked to make sure the page ID and slug match. . If I click on it, I get a 404 and it looks for sf-forum. That’s the same as the slug it gets during install, which I didn’t change and again, is the ID of the page. I also updated permalinks. Also, this is in my header.php as it should be.<?php wp_head(); ?>
I don’t know what else to look for

perhaps you could try something for me although it might sound daft! At least it might help me troubleshoot this in future.
- Go to your ‘manage > pages’ menu option and when you get the list click on ‘edit’ aganst the forum page.
- When you get the page up for editing, type a few words into the edit window.
- Save the page (if it says ‘publish’ click that and let me know please)
- Now try the forum.
- if it wprks you cango back and remove the unwanted text.
The reason I am suggesting this (and it is a long shot) is that sometimes I have noticed that the page gets saved as a draft instead of published and this may mean that it cannot be found correctly to display.
if this doesn’t work can you give me a link to your site by any chance?

Before I saw your post it just started working. I was messing around with everything and maybe did what you said, just not on purpose. But anyway, I knocked something loose. Thanks!
