*404 Errors General*

Some setups seem to get 404 errors A LOT.

We have seen these errors in the javascript console and in accessing the forums.

THESE ARE DIFFERENT ERRORS

If you are seeing errors in the javascript console, please read the thread entitled “AHAH 404 OK”

If you are seeing 404 errors when trying to access the forums page please read the following posts…

*I Can access the forums, but as soon as I click on a topic, I get a 404 error*

This error is caused by an improper setting in the forums permalink refrence…

Check to see if the forum is on a sub-page by editing the forum page and checking the “Page Parent” … if the page parent is anything OTHER THAN “Main (none)” then you are in a sub-page.

in the FORUM menu under the Manage Forums->Admin tab:

Make sure the page slug is actually both The Parentpage slug followed by a forward slash and then the forum page slug.

When making any changes to the page slug or permalinks on the main site, always save options, then Update the permalinks under the Tools tab and save options a second time.

Example: Mysite .org has a SUPPORT section where the forums are under the support page the page slug should be: support/sf-forums

Once Admin has updated the page slug and the permalinks of the forums, all groups, forums, topics and posts should appear normally.

*My Page is not on a sub-page, but I still get the 404 errors when accessing the individual posts… Oh Yea, My Blog is in Chinese (Japanese, Korean, etc.)*

This error is caused by a known issue in SPF v3.0.2 and below with the Kanji, Manderin and Keoshu character sets (among others) in post topics.

A corection was issued in SPF v3.0.3.

Update your software as soon as posible.

If you are still having this issue and you are using the latest version of SPF, please send me a note in PM with your site URL and the language file you are using.

You would not believe how many times this happens, but the page slug is Case Sensitive, and spelling counts too.

Category, tag, page and post slugs are all lower case when they are generated by WordPress. The page title might have caps, spaces and fancy characters, but the slug never will.

Don't just glance at the page slug and ID number, verify them.
