Support Forum : 404 after permalink restructure and toolbox update

404 after permalink restructure and toolbox update

Hi there –


I have installed the forum and it seemed to be working well initially - I can create forums, it all displays, etc.


However, after changing my permalink structure in WP from default (?p=123) to any other standard structure, the forum results in a 404 even when I update the forum permalink in the toolbox and it displays what should be the new and correct URL for the forum. When I change it back to the WP default, it's fine.


The simple-foums folder is directly in Plugins. I have activated it in the admin. I have no plugins other than Akismet installed. I seem to be stuck with http://irishadvocate.ie/?page_id=3 as the only working URL for this forum, and whilst it is not the end of the world, it is rather… inelegant. I would vastly prefer to end up with /forum if at all possible.


Can anyone advise?

This might sound trite and 'obvious' but it trips a lot of people up so it may work!

After updating the forum permalink in the 'toolbox' tab, go to your site. Empty your browser cache. Click on your home page or visit any page OTHER than the forum. Ths should flush the rewrite rules. Then see of the forum loads…
