Hi Andy,
after Updating to 3.13 I can't update my Avatar-image. The forum says, that it can't access the avatars-directoy. Permission for the files as welll as for the directoty are set to 777.
When I try to define the directory for image-uploads to forum-avatars (did this for testing) I got the same error:
* '/wp-content/forum-avatars' - Der Ordner für den Bildupload existiert nicht. Bitte korrigieren
But it is definitely there
Best wishes
Daniel

I have to say I have no ideas. Anyone have any clues to this?

it is 755.
You can check it out at http://www.celtic-rock.de . My avatar is in the directory: http://www.celtic-rock.de/forum/reisen/howth/page-1
When I try to update my avatar the error is:
AVATAR UPLOAD FEHLER: Zielverzeichnis nicht erreichbar- Profil Eintrag:Profil aktualisiert.
Best wishes
Daniel

I don't really follow this. Avatars are uploaded on your profile page. The field in your image os for image uploads.
That should find it however. have you tried reducing the permissions> Some servers are set to deny access when permissions are set so open…

Hi Andy,
Hi Mr Papa,
these are the old avatars, before my update to 3.1.3 (or Wordpress 2.5.1?) it worked fine. now i can't update those files. I wrote them here to you, because I wanted to show that these directories definetely exist.
the image-upload function does not find any directory under /wp-content. For testing I tried “plugins” with the same result.
Reducing the permissions to 755 has no result too.
My System uses Wordpress 2.5.1 at the moment and I can't use the auto-update for plugins because of problems with the temporary directory, but “normal” uploads through the media-library work fine. could this depend?

I really need some help with this one and someone with more knowledge than me on this subject. IThe odd thing, to me, is that it worked before and there I see no reason why it should still not work. My guess is that it comes down to permissions - there are more to permissions than just the read/write settings - there is owndership as well.
I am also confused by the fact that It is plain the folder exists and can be read - I can load you avatar into my browser.
Help anyone? This is beyond me…

does the avatar-upload use the temp directory for upload?
Using the plugins auto-update-function I always get this error:
Warning: ftp_rawlist() [function.ftp-rawlist]: Unable to create temporary file. Check permissions in temporary files directory. in /is/htdocs/…/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-ftpext.php on line 327
As I read in some other forums there is no solution for this problem on my server (hosteurope in germany).
Are there other users at hosteurope where the avatars work?

I can't answer your question about your host but as I understand it ALL uploads from a php based system will first upload to the temp folder and then move it once the new file is complete.

ok, than the problem is different because uploads through the media-library work fine.

I don't know how they do that…

I suspect that the avatar upload DOES use the temp directory… I know that spf image uploader does… most file uploads use the temp directory too… the file is verified before being copied to the final resting place…
the media loader is flash based (at least the primary) so it might operate quite different…

I would talk to your host as well - they may be able to throw some light onto the issue.

Andy, Mr. Papa,
what should I say. I changed my theme the last days (the old was k2) and today I tried to change my avatar and everythings works fine. I can't say what the solution really was.
Thanks a lot for your really great support (and therapy sometimes :-)) and software of course!

Well that is good news. But I have no explanation! Although I have always understood that 'K2' does some pretty weird stuff so it may have been something in there.
