hello,

i have several issues but let's start with the latest and go backwards as needed. you can refrer to an earlier post on the v2.1 forum = site-hacked-sf-goes-to-post/page-1/post-10007/#p10007

1) just installed full v3.1.1

note: there was no v2.1 plugin as i removed all plugins when i upgraded to wp 2.5.1
note: there are existing tables with content from the v2.1 forum

2) i can see my forum headlines in the sidebar and my forum admin appears to be ok as i can see the 12 posts within the forum

3) the link path to the forum in admin ( /sf-forum ) is correct but i can't get to the forum or any forum posts. i do however get a fatal error: call to undefined function: stp_posttags() only on forum posts
note: i did try deactivating simple tags but that did not change anything.

btw - read the post prior to this topic about not being able to access posts or topics. if you remember the hack caused my pages to fall into the post section and i don't see a way to edit any of the forum posts within my database.

bottom line: i can't edit topics, title, pretty vs ugly, slugs.

i am thinking i may have to copy all the content, delete existing content on database and recreate my forum.

remove the leading slash from the slug on forum options.

I can't help or advise with the simple tags error I am afraid.

check your page template for a call to the stp_posttags()…  if you no longer have that plugin, you should remove the calls…

hm, hope this isn't a double entry as i don't see my last reply…

1) i did remove the call last night but i too had too much wine and was tired and failed to mention that

2) in previous reply = the slash is removed in the admin area. i mislead you by not showing the complete path when i mouse over the link to get into the forum = domain.com/theme/sf-forum

3) also in previous = are we saying that sql v4.1.22 will work in 3.1.1 or are we saying “don't know” as current is tested in v4.2

4) how do i get into the forum. do i have to drop all the sf-forum tables that are up there and reinstall?

  1. Good.
  2. it looked like you were referring to the forum option 'page slug' setting where no slash should be included.
  3. We are saying that we do not support installing this plugin using any MySQL version older than 4.2. That does not necessarily mean it will not work although it may not install correctly. In reality we will try and help if we can.
  4. How do you get into the forum? You don't say how far 'in' you are getting. You mention you can't edit topics or titles or slugs which implies you can load the forum just not use much within in. I think the first step would be to work through the online help topics o=in the installation troubleshooting section and see if any of them help.

doesnt look like your forum is active…  after uploading the files to your plugins directory, activate the plugin in wordpress…  then you should have a forum menu at the top level of your wordpress admin menu…  under there will be an install/uprade link to complete the process…  then you can start adding groups and forums…

1) i can get into the admin section. it is already organized from my previous version. don't forget, i have tables on my db with content. it is good to go from an admin point of view.

2) note: what is the forum content anyway. i don't think it is a “post” and i thought it was a “page” or is it something else.

3) it has been a while but i believe my original forum loaded up, had user access, in a sidebar ( i have a three column blog ) - where my forum “title's” are currently visible. but since the content is a “post” it loads up in the middle ( post ) column

4) take a peek = http://petmonologues.com/pet022207

btw - thank you for the quick-time responses and looking at this even with the older sql…

I still see no forum. i see a page that says forum at the top and nothing else. I hate to be difficult but I really do not have a clue what you are asking of me… and I am not sure what you are referring to regarding pages and posts???

1) if you mouse over the “forum” button it would normally take you to the “forum” = and you can see the path = domain.com/theme/sf-forum

2) if you mouse over the “Simple Forum” title with no content in the middle column u see the path = domain.com/theme/sf-forum/760 = 760 is a “post id” on my blog

3) as an admin i can see all the forum content on my database. as a vistor you can only see the “titles” in the upper left hand column starting with “101 writing tips”. EVERYTHING points to 760, a page.

4) in wordpress there are “posts” and  “pages”. right now the Simple Forum is behaving like a post with no content, only a title i.e., “Simple Forum”.

5) i can go into the database and manually change 760 from a post to a page and see what happens. obviously, Simple Forum is neither a post or a page.

6) i am asking if i can't access the forum as a user/visitor what do i do? drop the current sf tables and reinstall which would give me new tables with no content. and i would start over and manually reinsert the content for the 12 posts you know see in the upper left hand column starting with “101 writing tips”

still confused? sorry, so am i  ;-)

btw mr papa. this is my fourth SF install and about six months worth of SF experience. it is just that my site was hacked on 1/28/08 and then again on 4/1/08 and each time the forum crashes/turns into a “post” that i can't get into. i am hoping that wordpress v 2.5.1 is secure otherwise hello expression engine which i really don't want to have to learn at this point in time…

Simple:Press Forum uses a wordpress 'page' and it can ONLY use a page. So why not recreate it?

  1. Go to Write > Page to create a new page item.
  2. Give it whatever title you want but this title will appear above the forum
  3. Note the page slug (now shown below the title in WP 2.5)
  4. Save the page and note the ID. This is more doiccicult in 2,5 because in their infinite and rather demented wisdon the WP team have removed it. But in the Manage > Page screen if you hover over the page title it will show the page ID in the browser status bar.
  5. Go to Forum > manage Options > Admin  tab
  6. Fill in the page ID and page slug fields with those of the page you have just created. Remember the slkug is case sensitive so it must be identical.
  7. Saver the options.
  8. Go to the toolbox tab and update the forum permalink.
  9. Go to your blog and click on any menu item except the forum to refresh your system
  10. Go to your forum

if it is still not working then there are som eother problems. Check the inline help for installtion and theme realted problems.
