The front page is showing up fine but I am unable to access any forum or topics. Each time I press one of the forum title links it just reloads the front page. Any suggestions?

Edit: It has something to do with my permalink structure. I reset it to default and everything appears to be working but can anybody shed some light on why this happened. Is it not possible to reset my permalinks after installing Simple Press?

your forum does not appear operational - or at least the link you gave us…

but, yes its certainly possible to change permalinks and get SPF to work… there is a process you have to follow… after updating your permalinks, or changing your forum page slug, you need to make sure the forum slug in the SPF admin options page, admin tab, matchs the page slug… then go to the toolbox tab on the same panel and click the update forum permalink button…

Also some other plugins can cause eactly this effect (Permalink Redirect for example).

Go to the on-line help (admin forum menu) and look at the Installation Troubleshooting section. There are some notes in there that may help.

I am having this same exact problem.  Once a forum is clicked, the permalink updates in the address bar, but the page just reloads itself.  It also takes quite a while to load… like its still looking for something.  I have deactivated all my plugins and rulled them out.  I also tried clearing my cache, and had someone else test on a different machine.  Still no luck.

So, after reading this thread, I tried messing with my permalink structure.  I changed to default, then reset the slug and permalink in the options and toolbox… and the forum worked.

The reason I am telling you all of my steps is because, I really need the permalink structure to stay the way it is… otherwise I will have tons of broken links.  So, I am desparate to get around this… and figure out why my forum won't work with the permalinks set to “day and name”.

Then it dawned on me, I was putting in the forum slug in the admin panel with a forward slash at the end (redneck-revolution-fan-club/jimmie-van-zant-fan-forum/)

So, then I tried it without the ending slash and, VOILA!  It works.

I figured I should continue with this support post… because such a simple thing took me HOURS to figure out.  Maybe, hopefully, this information will save someone time in the future.

Word from the wise: Do not enter an ending slash when editing the forum slug!

If you're interested…  here is the forum, now functioning well. :)

It's a good point. We can put in code to trim those out for people. Thanks for the info and update.

Funny thing is, when troubleshooting, I did notice the address bar was going to the right place, but the forums just stayed on the main page…  I even looked at the slashes, and there wasn't an extra one there.  But, I have run into this issue with other things — I just wish I would have realized it sooner.

Glad that you can take care of it!  Thanks for a super awesome plugin…  I'm hoping my client will throw a little extra money my way so I can donate to all you wonderful coders.  This plugin, as well as the gig calendars plugin, are both lifesavers!

Thanks!
