Duplicate Content Posts

Here's a question for you:

I'm creating a sitemap for my forum (I have about 3,000 posts) and noticed that the exact same posts are re-created twice in my forum under different URLs.  One form is http://www.site.com/forum/group/example/post/page-1 and the other form is http://www.site.com/forum/group/example/post/page-1/post-123

So now, my sitemap has 6,000 URLs in it, when it should only have 3,000, and half of them are duplicate posts.

Why does Simple:Press create TWO pages that are identical for the same post with two different URL's?  Why does the second one add “post-123″ (or other random number) to the end of another URL that is identical to the first one?

I am certain that this is causing duplicate content issues with Google that is preventing me from getting the traffic I should be getting.  How do I erase those duplicate posts with the “post-123″ suffixes on the end of them?

Thanks.

Its on the list for 3.2 to see if we can reduce/eliminate the duplicate posts…  until then, you need to use the .htaccess file and do some redirects…  you can search these forums for a couple of topics on how folks did it…

As I said before, technically these perform two different tasks. One is the url of the topic and the other is a url of an actual post item. Yes - I understand what you are saying but lets be accurate here.

Wow, that's way beyond my programming knowledge, and I wouldn't want to do it for thousands of posts.  I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the problem taken care of in 3.2.  Thanks for the info . . .

the number of posts is irrelevant…  the .htaccess redirect rule would be a regular expression match and not each post title…  still, it is complex to get the regexp right…
