Hi,

Near as I can tell everything works except the tinymce (which is ok with me, I assumed it was a conflict with the custom editor I use in my blog) and Edit My Post which is not ok.

Clicking on the edit my post link refreshes the page but does not open a edit box.

reply, and qoute work fine.

I have set all members and guests with the ability to edit their posts forever while testing. (edit until reply is set no )

I removed my contact forms using cformII and replaced it with wp-contact-form as reccommended in your incompatible plugins.

My blog url http://www.painrelief101.com

Here is my list of plugin's being used (did not relize how they pile up Cool

Other than the editing issue I love the forum look, functionality and ease of setup.

Any Suggestions appreciated.

I tried to do a post to check it out but it went to moderation…

most likely its a conflict with another plugin… we have heard of conflicts with wassup before…

best thing to do, and yes its painful, is deactive as many, if not all plugins, except for SPF and see if it then works… if so, one by one start activating your plugins until it breaks… then we know the conflict and might be able to help…

oh, just a wild guess, but since FCKEditor replaces tinymce in wp, that might be why tinymce doesnt work with spf anymore…

Check that Google Sitemaps is the latest version. There was a conflict with outdated ones and WP 2.5 but the latest works just fine. If that's not the one then sorry but the advice above is the best method…

By the way - personally I have no problem with cForms whatsoever.

Well I deactivate all of them and forum edit still did not work.

I also went to the default theme and deactived the plugins, Still no change, the edit post still does not work.

I set all members permission to Can bypass post moderation.

Glad about cForms I had couple of complicated forms built and like the styling. Once we get this fixed

The next step would be to check for javascript errors. Can you clear you console (if using Firefox) and see if any js errors are generated when you try to oad the edit post mode?

I am not sure what you mean. I am using firefox, but

Java Plug-in 1.6.0_05
Using JRE version 1.6.0_05 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
User home directory = C:\Documents and Settings\JR
—————————————————-
c: clear console window

g: garbage collect
h: display this help message

r: reload policy configuration
s: dump system and deployment properties
t: dump thread list
v: dump thread stack
x: clear classloader cache

There was nothing else there.

But on your site

my inspect element showed up an error

Well thanks for that although I am not sure why i am not seeing these error messages. Not sure why they are appearing either as they are coded to do nothing if there is no data. But I will look into that one so thanks.

On your edit post problem I can not see anythign other than a js conflcit beign the cause. Does anyone else have any ideas we could pursue?

Finally, I figured it out. I had a redirect setup up on the forum subdirectory. It seemed to work fine.

But I removed the redirect and went back to the default direcotry location ect.

Then tested the edit post function and it worked just like it should.

Now I have turned up 2 more problems,

1. The report post function works on short posts, but breaks my theme on long posts. I my blog I have some very long pages so page lenght in general is not the problem.

This is the post that when I tried to report it, when the report page opened it broke the page layout.

http://www.painrelief101.com/sf-forum/growing-medicinal-herbs/alove-vera-growing-and-using/page-1

2. In internet explorer 7, the box the qoute and reply, report post and pm box is not resizing to match the screen width. Only the qoute and reply button is visible. Works fine in Firefox. and the blue box that in a normal page is for comments also breaks in IE7, it is fine in firefox and the rest of my site in IE7.

Good news on the important one…

  1. The thread you linked me to didn't seem to exist any more. But tried an alternate one (report) and it seemed OK. I can check the code though to ensure we are setting the right CSS rules and filters. I'll do that before 3.1 is released.
  2. Well it's almost certainly going to be theme CSS related. But… I see you are using textual icons but are still showing the icon text as well. Does it not correct the problem (and maybe look better) if you turn those icon labels off?

Well I turned off some of them, I was not sure all of the button labels were self explanatory. I will try turning those off but it seems like it is due to that box not resizing in IE7 like it does in firefox.

Now for some more bad news.

I disabled fckedit and all of the plugins and the tinymce still did not work.

I set up a new domain http:www.besthealthsuppiles.com to test it on all default. But the domain has not transfered from the old name servers to the new ones yet.

Do provide a warning in the install or help files about redirects.

hang on - I thought you had sorted the editor issues? You've lost me there.

As to your IE problem it is always related to a theme CSS conflict. I am afraid I use a Mac and donlt have a Windows machine available so personally I canlt take a look at your site to see the problem.

I got it to work with basic editor but not with tinymce installed. I thought it was due to having FCKeditor installed but removing FCKeditor did not help.

The CSS issue is part of the styling in the forum software. It does the same thing on this forum when viewed in IE7. When screen width is decreaced the buttons drop below the edge of the display box.

Ok back to the start. TinyMCE doesn't work… are you talking about all the time or just on an 'edit this post' action? And I still believe this to be a javascript conflict.

As for IE7 to be honest the only thing I can realy say is… that's IE for you. IE7 is a great improvement over IE6 but it is still a long way short of being standards compliant and still gets a lot of things wrong. Smaller burttons may be the only answer to that one.

It is all the time, so I guess it is back to deactivating plugin and trying out a basic theme.

sorry for joining the topic late, but if I may, where are we on this one?

Thats an odd theme and how it deals with diff browsers… On Firefox, the width is 1100 pixels… on IE7 it comes out about 800 pixels and with the sidebar there, not much room for the forum…

I did not design the theme from scatch and mostly work in firefox. I think it is setup to work as a fixed width in explorer and floating in firefox. I generally work if firefox when I am modifing it then just check that it is not broken in IE.

It was one of the first sandbox compatible themes.

Where I am at:

The first problem was a redirecthat the edit reply function could not deal with. I deleted the redirect and found another way to deal with that. and the edit reply worked.

Now it is a styling conflict, I think. See the new page template that got rid of the sidebar, background divisions and rounded couners, etc.. Seems to basicly work.

There does seem to be something wrong in the styling / use of the class sfpostable

The problem occurs when the table class sfpostable is being used. when the view portal decreases it is not contained within the containing divisions. It stays fixed width as the others shrink.

I noticed that on this site as well.

It seem to work with the plain page in this theme, except for the sizing and spacing of the tinymce tool bar.

It also seems to be a fixed width when I shrink the window down the bottons on the right disappear.

A little picky issue in IE the yellow saved post box fades away nicely but sticks there in FF (ooops just saw that it faded when I clicked on it in FF )

For now I can go with the plain page.

Any suggestions about the tinymce tool Bar?

TinyMCE Toolbar

One of the possible plans for 3.2 is to allow for built-in customisation of the tiny toolbar. But for now, with some small edits, you can do it yourself very easily.

In the 'tinymce' folder is a file called 'tinyinit.php'. Open it for editing.

You will see a line:

theme_advanced_buttons1

which lists all of the toolbar buttons. There are two choices.

  1. Remove unwanted buttons and hence functionality
  2. Move some buttons to the next line - theme_advanced_buttons2

Note the format of the line and entries in the init. Separate each entry with a comma and do not forget the closing comma at the end of the line.

Also - note that the tinyMCE editing window can be resized by the handle in the lower right corner - but it cannot be made any narrower than the toolbar.

I hope this helps

That helped,

The icon Spacing and background are still an issue but at least it is functional now. I have also noted a few examples where the forum styling sheet does not take priority, when one would expect it.

All and all I am pretty happy with the look and function now. I would appreciate any comments.

Yes - I still see some minor anomalies and these will come from the theme.

I am forever unsure as to why the forum CSS does not take priority when indeed it should. Every version brings a few more tweakes to try and make it so and to reduce the support on such issues (which probably account for at least 50% of topics).

I tend to think it is still down to the vagueries of CSS implementation as much as anything.
