i am on v2.6.1. great install. great plugin! thank you. several questions.
1) in admin the message = Admin Display Name Missing - MUST be set (note: i did try to change the public name of admin to PRand but SF would not let me i think. so i am back as admin again. everything working fine. just getting the error message. is this a problem? i can live with the message.
2) my theme is not a normally constructed theme. no sidebar code on pages, etc. when SF loaded it has its own page which is nice, no special page needed to be formatted. i have most recent posts set at 10 and to be seen on home page. but it doesn't. what should i know to tell my theme builder how to get my most recent listed “somewhere”
3) my contributors ( registered users ) are listed though you can't see their profile unless they make a post. if they post in the forum the theme does not recognize them as making a post. i would like all contributors to be recognized. same as 2), what do i tell my theme builder.
pretty sure you can look at my site if you need to. if not, i will give you url. thanks, r.

ah, one other thing.
i have the blurb “access denied” above my admin page. this is probably tied to the error message above about the admin missing? am i losing any features. i can't seem to find a way to edit the “posts” though managing everything else seems to be working.

- Admin > Forum Options > Admin Tab: Are you saying that whatever you type into the admin 'forum display name' field will not save? That is somewhat strange. if this IS the case, what about trying it through your profile?
- I am confused by this. What do mean by 'home page'? Are you setting the forum up to be your home page? If tis is the case then take a look at the online help in the How To section. There is a topic on this and I know there is at least one 'gotcha' you need to avoid. If this is not what you mean can you explain more fully please.
- Again - I really don't have a clue what you mean by the phrase “the theme does not recognize them as making a post”. What is your problem with your theme?
The 'Access Denied' message may be caused by the admin name display field but there is a problem that some people have experienced with this message so it might be that. There is a thread somewhere that deals with bow to fix this. I will try and hunt it down.

1) the memory bank is awaking… i think i have the problem. this happened before on another site of mine and i forgot the fix. my admin ID number is not “1″ for security reasons. ring a bell? when you say “profile” do you me WP profile? but we have identified the problem, right?
2) on another site my latest post titles appear in the sidebar. a great magnet to access forum. as is, you have to go into the forum. i don't want the forum to be the home page but trying to figure out how to see it without having to hit the forum tab.
3) right now every registered user is listed in a contributor tab. if that user makes a comment in a regular post their name gets a link to their profile. if not, you only see the name. as is, if the user makes a comment in the forum, no link to their profile.

- No this is NOTHING to do with the ID of the user and we most certainly do not assume '1'. The designated admin is the user who installed the plugin. And no, I do NOT mean the WP profile page but the forum profile page.
- Refer to the template tags section in the nnine help - there are a few there to choose from.
- You do not get the profile link alongside each post? Do you have extended profiles turned on and the permissions set up correctly?

1) the admin of the site (who installed the plugins) has an ID number somewhere i think? in the DB? i think WP assigns an id of “1″ to the admin by default. if that is the case, i have created two admins by changing the number in the forum? doesn't the forum ID number and the WP ID number have to be the same? if i put in an ID of “1″ in the forum everything will be ok…?
as is, in the forum admin tab the admin > forum administrator > forum display name = nothing sticks. each time i type something in and save the fill in area comes up blank. andy, if this does not make sense i will try to find the answer ( over a year ago ) in your support forum.
forum profile page? is this in manage options? sorry, brain cramp i can't seem to find the profile label anywhere…

No WP does not assign an ID of '1' to the admin. it often happens that way because it creates the admin account when you install it and therefore '1' is the first number to be used. But it is good practice to change that acocunt and replace it with something the hackers out there do not know.
I know there was a problem many versions ago with this field in that it would sometimes come up with the word 'array' and I honestly do not remember the cause of this now. But it was a long time ago. I do not see any reason for it not to accept input. So ytry the profile - which is on the FRONT end accessed through an icon up near the login icon,.

your access denied message might be related to the fix in this thread…
