have you set up your permissions and user groups?  check the manage forums panel and the manage permissions panel…  you will want to make sure the default user group guests (assuming you haven't removed it) is assigned to your forums with a permission set that allows them to post topics/posts…

fyi… the link above returns only 404 errors…

oh yeah… in 3.x, you also need to make sure that guests are allowed to post via the spf manage options panel, users tab…  make sure the allow guests to post is checked…  v4.0 does away with that redundant check…
