3.1.2, build 340. Recently upgraded from 3.1.1.  Skin: Structure

'Allow guests to post in public forums' is checked

Viewing permissions on the forum shows Members and Guests both have limited access. However, when viewing the forum, Guests see “Please Login” where Members see “Add a New Topic”.

I am almost sure Guests could post in 3.1.1. Was this a change in 3.1.2? Was it done on purpose?

I am in the processing of setting up a system, so I am playing around with a lot of options. I could easily have messed something up in doing so.

I think I figured out what is going on.  It is a cookie issue, not a version issue.

I am testing features all by myself, and have a limited number of computers to play with. Apparently once I log on as a registered user, sf plants a cookie. Next time I go to the forum, sf doesn't realize that I am trying to simulate a guest. It thinks I am a registered user who hasn't logged on yet, and thus wants me to log on before posting.

When I cleaned my cookies out, I was once again allowed to post.

sounds right… that was a much requested feature to prevent users from also posting as guests… we have it on our “to do” list to look at making that an option…

I am glad that i found this topic. I just wanted to create a new topic with the same issue. Yesterday i was wondering about this, too. Hope you´ll find a solution for this. That could become problematic namely if several users share one computer.

its not a problem, its a feature Wink by design…  but, yes, we have a ticket to look at making it an option…

It's seriously not a problem. It does not prevent users logging in or using the system in any way. And of they share a computer in the way sharing is intended, (both PC and Macs) then they woud still have their own user cookies as well.

However, I think that it is a problem. Assume it once that there is only one user-account for several people. For example. I logged in as X, write a post and logged off. My brother wants to write a post in the same forum as guest (on the same computer). A cookie was saved that tell´s him X is logged in, what keeps him away from writing a post until he entered X´s user data again. I hope you understand what i mean… I´ll just wait for the update. Maybe everything already cleared up then.

here is your error:

“There are No Groups defined”

You have to define Forum-Groups and Forums for folks to be able to post topics into.
