I want to have new Smilies in the forums.
Wenn I put new Smiles in the emotions/img directory - nothing happens like it would be in other boards.

This is a restriction of the TinyMCE editor although you can edit the emotions plugin but it is tedious.
It is on the development plans to support user uploaded smilies st some stage but at the moment there are much more important developments going on so I can't give you an expected ETA.

A direct overwrite of the emoticons works just fine. The only caveat is that you retain the original file names regardless of the emoticon that you use to replace it. The size of the smiley in the popup is a little skewed but beyond that it works fine for me.

yes you need to keep the same filenames. This is an enhancement for a future release…

Smilies? How do I put smilies on the editor? Is there an easy fix? Or are you guys going to make me think?

Do you mean… how do you get extra smiley's - or - do you mean how do you use smileys with the alternate 'quicktags' editor?
If the first then there is a bit of a problem there because TinyMCE hard codes the smiley's. It's on the future plans to try and do something with that but it's not done yet.
If the second question then just typing the keystroke eqivalents should work.

I just tried popping the template tags for the Smilie Themer toolbar plugin into sf-forms.php - oops! Didn’t work. Nice little plugin for the comments though.

I'm not familiar with it I'm afraid.

Before WP 2.5 i was using wp-grins for clickable smilies. Finally last sunday i found an alternative smiley plugin that works with WP 2.5.1. It adds clickable smilies to the admin and commentarea. There´s a template tag to show smilies in the comment area. Maybe it´s possible to integrate the plugin with simple press forum? My knowledge in PHP are very restricted so that I can only imagine that it could work.

it's very unlikley to work with the forum but I'll take a look at it to see. We do have a task to try and do somethign with smileys.

Sounds great. My idea was to have the same smilies in the forum as in the backend/commentarea. Then i´ll be patient and wait for your solution

I never could get Custom Smilies working again after I upgraded to 2.5. I installed Smiley Themer and the Smiley Themer toolbar instead and it works great - although not in SP. I tried to “wing it” and insert the toolbar by hand, and ended up screwing everything up, so I gave that up. But all is well now - on an interesting note - before, the visual editor in SP was not working at all for me - I would get some kind of no content error. Now all of a sudden it's working flawlessly, even on a site I had not upgraded to the latest version. They must have done something on my server at the hosting company - but my point is, I have clickable smilies now!
I'm going to go look in the TinyMCE editor files and see if I can hard code some smilies into there…I have my faves that I've carted around from site to site all these years!
off topic - I am still getting the same “incomplete entry” error on this site as I got on my sites, but it ultimately lets me post, I just have to click Save New Post twice.

Incomplete Entry: Sorry - which editor are you using on this site?
For tinyTMCE smileys look at the 'emotions' folder. It's very simple stuff.

The visual editor - I'll post a screenshot of the error I get.
Here's the URL to the screenshot - didn't want to mess up the format here.

When I click close, and then Save New Post again, it goes through fine.
on edit - to be clear, I no longer get this error on my own sites, and can use the visual editor.

It is because you have the QuickTags editor checked to use in your user profile. I have a fix ready for that if you want it or - if you prefer the tinyMCE editor anyway - just turn off the QT in your profile.

will be one of the top items for 3.2 based upon feedback
in the meantime, you can add more emoticons to the forums at will… look in the simple-forum/tinymce/plugins/emotions/img folder… you can add new ones… dont forget to add them to to the emotions.html file in the emotions directory..

Oh, goodie! I've got a bunch of tiny animated birds and other animals that I like using for smilies. You can find really cool and well done mini animated gifs on Japanese sites, or used to - I haven't found any good ones in a while.
