Hi, I would like to have the option to quote another post, but only a excerpt.  I don't know if this is possible without modifying the plugin code?

If code modification it is needed, could you please let me know the file needing modification.

At work without code access, so cant give you a starting point… 

but, seems like the easiest thing to do here is to simply edit the quoted text that gets copied into the post reply…  not sure I understand why quoting say the first 50 chars would be more beneficial than dumping the whole post and allowing you to edit to get the specific part you wanted to quote…

Another method would be to select the text you want and then just quote that… but that is also easily achieved by just copying and pasting…
