Andy,
I encountered some other weired things and hope you have a solution
1. Some (unregistered) users told me their posts do not appear after they have posted
2. I tried to reproduce but what I get is a message saying the pst needs to be approved my a moderator. But I did not set that in the forums administration. The admin (me) gets an email telling me about the post that I have to approve. When I click on the Admin link I get to the page and the post to be approved appears several times in a list.
3. Some images/icons are broken in MSIE 7
4. Whe an unregistered user fills out the post form the URL field is marked as “required”. But it doesn´t matter if one fills it or not.

The combination of 1 and 2 sounds to me like they may be a little impatient and keep refreshing the page which would just send the same post over again. is that a possibility? If this is somethign that continues with several users please let me know but I see this about once a month and it is an impatient user too quick on the refresh page button.
Whether a members or guests post requires moderation is set up in the permission set you assign to the user group and forum. You can set it like WP comments - every post needs moderation/no posts need moderation or their first post only needs moderation.
As to 3 I'll need a little detail please.
As to 4 then you should not see this field at all. It is not supposed to display. Have you done some custom work on a skin? Because there is a CSS directive in there ro keep this field hidden…?

a link to your site might help too… (its not always your name link… if so, just indicate so)

Hi,
I will monitor if it´s a matter of unpatience and ask the next one who reports his post hasn´t show up what he exactly did.
Concerning the permissions: I know where to set or change the permission sets but I seem to be too stupid to figure out which permissions are assigned to guests???
Number 3 is fixed now. It´s beeen an issue of some missing icons. Firefox just didn´t display them at all that´s why I didn´t recognize they are missing. IE showed broken images. Fixed after installing the latest version and using the default skin and icons.
Number 4 is also fixed after updating to 3.1
Thanx
Michael

Actually there has been one more report of this which we need to look into but actual steps to replicate something like this are essential so yes - if it happens again please get straight back to me.
On the permissions front - assuming you have not changed any user group settings from the defaults then Guests are set to use the 'Limited Access' permission set.

I can reproduce what Michael described. In my forum, when I post a message as guest from the Opera browser, the admin sees the message to be approved as many times as there are forums. When the admin approves the message in the appropriate forum only, everything returns back to normal.

Wow. I've got Opera. I'm off to try it….

No. Didn't do that for me. Just the single post. This was Opera on a Mac however. I don't really see why the browser would make any difference. After all - it does no processing. It is purely a display vehicle. But I will get someopne to test it on the PC version anyway

I just tried to post in my forum as “guest” from Firefox and I get the same thing. So you are right, it is not browser related.
But still, any message I post as “guest” in my forum appears in the admin screen as many times as there are forums, while others can post as “guest” in my same forum without this showing up.

And this is every time?
And you are seeing multiple copies of the same post? Can you send me a screenshot? (Preferably just of the affacted area…)
Does anyone else get this problem?

As far as I can see, it happens every time.
I sent you two screenshots in a private message. I hope it helps.
