Andy, I think you may have covered this already, but I am a bit confused and was hoping for some clarification.
At one point, my Simple:Press Forum displayed the tiltle of the post in the browser title bar, and as such the titles of the posts were displayed on search engine results, too.
I'm not sure if it was because of the last update, but now my Simple:Press Forum no longer shows the title of the post in the title bar or search results. Now it only shows the name of my forum for every one of my thousands of posts.
My search engine traffic has gone down CONSIDERABLY because of this, since people aren't seeing relevant results anymore.
Is there any way to change it so that it shows the title in the title bar again? Why was it changed in the first place?
Thanks for your help.

And now that I look closer, I see that your forum here does show the title of the post in the title bar, so evidently it is possible to do so.
How do I make my forum do the same?

First, you have make sure you have the option to show the topic title in the broswer title turned on… spf manage options - custom…
the last release also added in support for the All in One SEO plugin to put that topic title first, followed by the forum name…

Mr. Pappa, I've done all of that, but it's still not working. Every single post in the entire forum is displayed with the forum title. All In One SEO is activated, but I've tried everything and can't get the posts to display titles in the title bar.
Even when I turn off the All In One SEO, it still doesn't display the title of the post in the title bar. Any suggestions?

Well, I figured out part of the problem. I have my forum page set as my homepage. When I remove the forum page as my homepage, then the post titles are displayed in the title bar.
Unfortunately, the forum needs to remain my homepage as it is the only reason people come to the site. Any ideas on how to keep the post titles in the title bar while leaving the forum page as the homepage???

no, not really…. its probably related to WP and All in One Seo… they have an option to set the home page title, but WP may be doing something that AIOSEO doesnt recognize if its picking up the actual page title…
will have to do some research…

thus far, I cannot duplicate your issue… that said, with All in One Seo, if you are on the home page, it always puts in the words you have selected as the home page title… with the forum set as the home page, this happens for all forum pages… thats not quite what you describe as your issue… not what you want either…
we are talking about the broswer title bar here right?
basically, All in One SEO doesnt even look at the page title (in this case the topic title plus page title) and just stuffs its homepage title option for the broswer title. I dont see a way to make All in One SEO override this. SPF does not control this.

Thanks for the reply . . . actually, All In One SEO really has nothing to do with the problem, I think we are being distracted by that.
The problem is that I have my forum page set as my blog homepage. With it set up like that, Simple:Press DOES NOT show the title of the posts in the browser title bar. Instead, it just shows the title of the forum page on every single post.
Any way around this? I need to have my forum as the homepage of the site, but I also want to be able to display post titles in the browser bar. I'm sure I can't be the only one who has had a problem with this?

let me try again… for SPF to put the title in the broswer title bar, All in One SEO MUST be activated… without it, SPF does nothing to the browser title… for the home page, All in One SEO ALWAYS puts its option for home page title in the browser title and IGNORES the page title format/option that it normally uses for pages… SPF works with All in One SEO to modify/generate the browser title for normal pages, but it gets overwritten for the homepage…
unless we were to go back to modifying the broswer title completely ourselves like we tried in a previous version and almost caused a holy war, I dont think there is anything we can do to make All in One SEO not use its own home page title option…
My recommendation to you would be to modify the All in One SEO plugin to use its normal browser title generation for pages for the home page rather than the option text that gets set on its option page.

I agree that would be the best option. There is little we can do that would prove successful. Maybe a little request to the new author od the SEO plugin may help as well.

If you have the same problem, same answer… but, I dont think you have the same problem since your forum doesnt appear to be the home page of the site like the original poster indicates.l..
To me, it doesnt appear that you have selected the option with spf to have the topic included inthe page title… seee the third post in this topic for where that is done…

Just one more point as I had the same problem. Please do as Mr Pappa suggests in the post below BUT ALSO go to MANAGE > PAGES > Select the page you used as the Forum > On that page, just below the Write Box is a All in One bar. Click on it and make sure the Title is BLANK > Then save
Hope this helps . You can see an example here:

i did not understand so much of this…..
I have the SEO pack installed, and no text in the field as gemmo1 referring to.
I have also checked the “option to show the topic”…
Neither is my “home” the forum homepage…. (i've tried with both)

And do you have an entry in the 'page title format' within the AIOSEO options page? I use
%page_title% | %blog_title%
which works just fine as you can see…

Believe it or not i have accidently found out what caused my problem…
In the toolbox section you can update the current permalink, and it was for some reason i don't know stuck with http://www.mysite.com/%post_id% and i did not manage to change this to http://www.mysite.com/%postname%/.
I tried several times to update the current permalink, but the forum was not accessible if i had chosen %postname% as permalinks in WP no matter what i did….. This was actually a problem i was working on, and today a got tired of thinking out a solution and logged in to MySQL admin and changed it directly in in the database…
And WTF!!!!
Now everything work as it is suppose to, both permalinks and titlebar are as they should now
Strange…. but now i'm very happy

Good. Believe it or not WordPress provides no hooks for plugins to take an action after the main blog permalinks are changed. Which is why ot has been a manual thing although we have managed to get around this in V4.
