Hi!
Sorry, I have tried to search this both here and elsewhere. I want to be able to allow users to upload images onto the forum. I have set up a folder in wp-content and have set the permission of that file within my cpanel correct I believe (users and myself can read write and execute permission 7!?) and everything else I could find on wp and also within SF forums.
I still don't get an option to upload- only to insert image from a URL (exactly the same as on this forum)- is that correct?! Or should I be getting another option to upload much like I would in WP?! The help dropdown suggests I need tinymce running which I beleive I do have but also says I need php GD graphics library running- I have done a lot of searching and cannot find out how to see if this is working/installed and if this is the problem. I have no problems uploading to Wp (although I am only running 2.3 as I could not get images to upload on 2.5- is this the issue?!?)
Love SF by the way, great plugin. my forum is here! Any ideas greatly appreciated!

If the GD library was not loaded you would not be able to allocate an upload folder in the Forum > Forum options > Add-Ons tab.
So IF the GD library ios available AND the forum can find the folder you have specified, open the tinyMCE editor to make a post and click on the 'insert image' button on the toolbar. beside the 'image url' foeild you should see a browser icon. Click that for the upload wionodw to open.
Note however that there is a reported bug when using IE7 which, all being well, will be fxed in the next update to the forum plugin.

If you as admin can upload images from inside the TnyMCE editor while writing/creating a post, then the problem is with permissions, User Permissions inside that group, Permission sets in the forum, or permission settings of the upload folder.
IF you, as the admin, DO NOT get the upload icon, and you have tripple checked folder permissions, the problem very well may be that the GD library is not loaded.
This is an option that is normally installed by most hosting providers. Contact your provider for information about your setup.
If you are self hosted on a Macintosh computer using OSX 10.2 or higher, the GD library is NOT loaded by default. There are several ways to go about setting this up with the native Apache server on a Mac, none of them fall within the realm of these forums.
There is a free Mac OSX application called MAMP (http://mamp.info/) which has it's own Apache server and GD library extensions. The latest version requires MacOSX 10.4 or newer.
Most other Unix based OS's will have GD library loaded by default with Apache.

Thanks for the rapid response…..
Ah, I have found the browser button you mention- i had tried that earlier but it didn't work - it simply opens a small oblonge new window which shows part of my front page- I cannot open the page fully and it appears there may be an error image in the top right briefly on opening with a cross, but I cannot see this as it is off the page. Same happens trying to browse to upload a video file.
thanks again for the rapid assistance.

All of the highside windows Andy has used are resizeable. Try to find the bottom right hand side corner and resize the window.

As I said in post 2 above - this has shown a problem in IE7. I have not had reports of this problem in other browsers though. We are still looking into it.
(Radio - the upload window is not a highslide window. It is a third party item coded by a user)

An error in a MicroSoft Product?… gee… who'd a thunk it possible? Of corse this means that we the web programmers are responcible, we must re-code all of our pages in ASP.NET and Direct Xpliot '09 (so we'll be ready for next year) because anyone NOT using IE7 on a windows Vista box will be sumarily executed and their hard drives will be removed with a spork.

A spork? Now there's a threat you don't hear that often!

So you have set up the images folder (with correct permissions) and the Forum > Options > Add-Ons locates it correctly?
And your permission set(s) have upload image permissions set?

image folder permission i've set it to 777
Forum>Option>Add-Ons … check location… all ok
Member permission… set for upload image…
Try again…. still can't find the browser button
sorry I think this just a suggestion… how about in the next version you make a dedicated button just below the posting window
BTW… I love your forum… very nice.

Out of interest have you tried this (a) logged in as admin and (b) on a 'reply to post' edit wndow as opposed to an 'add topic' window?
I think it may be a permission thing although many seem to have this function just fine - including this site (although only fr moderators).
I know it sounds like a cop-out but 3.1 is real close and I really need you to try it in that. it sure works for me here OK though…
As to your suggestion os a button outside of the editor…. it;s not the button that's a problem, it'a all the support code to go with it!

I tried all you suggested… but at last it solved by uninstall the forum and reinstall again … that is the fastest way.
Oooops… only admin could upload right now :((
|
|
|
|

That's weird. Cannot think of anythingthat should change. Reinstaling would not change the data.
Strange!

Yes… its strange to me too.. but the problem is only admin could see the icon of upload images, the other members can't.
By the way… I can't see the the button in this website, too…

we dont allow member uploads of images on this site…
thats why we aske that you make sure your permission sets are correct and that those permission sets have been assigned to user groups and the user groups have been assigned to forums… those checks are key…
forum admins bypass those checks and are always given permission…

Hmmmm… ok I'll show you…
First: if am log in as admin… no problem with the upload images button… it will show up
But if I login as member or other username up to moderator it will NOT show up, please click the screen capture for permission table…

And I'll show my name as moderator…

Then … when I want to insert/upload images…. thats I saw in my monitor (check the print screen).

And your forums do have the 'Moderator' permission set assigned to a user group - yes?

So…..?
|
|
|
|
|
Well I have no ideas I am afraid. We'll find out of Mr Papa or Radio have any.
I am tempted to say that 3.1 will be released tomorrow (if all goes to plan) which perhaps may resolve the problem and I can say that there have been some small changes in the way the TinyMCE edtor is initialised which may be what is needed but then I would have expected this to have been a much bigger problem in the current release…
